Gathering fabric on rods attached to the upper edge of one wall adds a perceived depth and dimension to a room that a flat wall just can't create.

Materials and Tools:

dowel or curtain rod
double-sided screw
drapery rod hardware
2 king-size flat sheets
drill
measuring tape

Figure A

Steps:

1. Measure the width of the wall you wish to cover and purchase wooden dowels or wooden drapery rods to extend the entire span. Create a long rod by putting two dowels or rods together using a double-sided screw. Mount the drapery rod hardware high up on the wall, allowing room for finials at each end.

2. To prepare the sheets, cut the ends open along the top edge of each sheet to create an open-ended pocket. Reduce the size of the pocket and create a ruffle at the top by sewing a straight seam through the pocket.

3. Run the drapery poles through the rod pocket and hang them up. Pull the fabric over the two finials at the ends of the drapery rod so the fabric completely covers the wall and arrange the fabric until satisfied.
