Quilting expert Alex Anderson suggests using neutral thread when piecing brightly-colored fabrics. Anderson recommends a neutral, dark gray thread when working with dark values and a neutral cream thread when working with light values. When piecing a light to a dark value, place a cream thread in the bobbin and gray on the top, sewing with the light fabric on the bottom and the dark on the top.
